Sauder Village block of the month

Today I got to work on my quilt blocks from the quilt shop at Sauder Village block of the month program. We're using the pattern book called "Strawberry Garden" by Fig Tree Quilts. I made the 6 strawberry blocks. (2 for the requirements, 4 extra for the challenge). They were a challenge, but came out pretty well as long as I used a scant 1/4" seams.

Sand 'n Sea quilt

This beautiful quilt is called "Sand and Sea", a block of the month quilt from Sonflower Quilts from a couple years ago. Cathy F of Sonflower brought this into me to quilt. She chose the quilting pattern Seagulls. She also chose a blue and brown variegated thread for the top quilting thread.

Sonflower Quilts new block of the month

I'm working on a block of the month from Sonflower Quilts that just started in January. It's called "Dutch Tiles" . It's a 12 month block of the month. So you buy your first fabric packet for $8. If you bring it back finished by next month, then the cost is only $6. I really love Sonflower's block of the months. Here's their website: http://sonflowerquilts.com/

Dressed to the Nines block of the month

Just did month 9 of Sonflower Quilts "Dressed to the Nines" block of the month. Here's a photo of the first 9 batik blocks. I wonder how Kathy is going to set them together. I love their blocks of the months that are mystery quilts!

Gravity block of the month

Worked on Month 3 of the Gravity block of the month from Sonflower Quilts. This month we used the "hex n more" ruler to make the hexagons in the center of each block. Then we used the "super sidekick" ruler to make the triangles that go around the hexagon. I love how these blocks go together.

Color Me Happy new block of the month

I started a new block of the month from Sonflower Quilts called "Color Me Happy". These are all batiks and it turned out really pretty. This block of the month is fun - it teaches you how to become a better quilter - it's actually how I learned how to quilt. So you purchase the pattern and the first month's fabric kit. Then you make the block. If you bring the completed block back by the next month's meeting, you receive the next kit free. Call the shop for more information. 419-885-4438.

arcadia avenue block #2 - yellow

Arcadia Avenue block 2

I worked on block#2 for the block of the month (BOM) called "Arcadia Avenue" from Sonflower Quilts. Even though they look hard, they're actually very easy once you get your supplies set up and just start paper piecing. I really am enjoying doing this BOM. So for this block, it called for making the gray the outlined stars - but I decided to do it in black. It all went together very easy - the stars all lined up. But then for some reason, I couldn't get the center to line up. I didn't want to take out stitching for a paper pieced project, so I improvised - I appliqued a black circle over the center. I think it works!

Gravity Block of the Month - #2

In between graduation activities, year end performances, concerts, awards banquets, work, family, I stole a few minutes for myself and finished the 2nd block out of the Gravity Block of the Month from Sonflower Quilts in Sylvania Ohio. We used the Super Sidekick ruler again -what fun!

Arcadia Avenue - yellow colorway

On April 30, I made a post about a block of the month from Sonflower Quilts called "Arcadia Avenue". I had so much fun doing the first block, that I took a few minutes for myself and made the block 1 again, only in a different colorway. This time I used a light gray and black with yellows/golds. I think this block of the month is going to be pretty no matter what fabric you use.

Arcadia Avenue block of the month

I started working on a new block of the month called "Arcadia Avenue" from Sonflower Quilts. It is a gorgeous paper pieced quilt. I admit - I had reservations about even trying it because I am a VERY new beginner paper piecer. First I got my work area ready. Then I went through the very good instructions and got my first of 12 sections done. Then I had the 12 blocks laid out. Then before I knew it, I had the block done. I am very proud of this block. Just a note - I did change out the light and dark fabrics from what Sonflower has in the kits. I had so much fun with this block that I'm going to do it in a second colorway - with their beautiful white/gray and piece it with yellows. Call the shop for more details. 419-885-4438.
