Vacation Project 40 - Sherbet Cake Mix Quilt Top

Vacation Project 40 - Hey guys - today I finished the most awesome quilt top ever! I made this Sherbet quilt from what's called "Cake Mix" papers. You stitch along the lines, tear off the paper and put all the pieces together. What's so awesome about this is that I DID NOT follow the pattern (What a surprise, right?). Instead of putting sashing in between all the blocks and rows, I thought it would look good to just put the blocks together with no sashing. What happened, unexpectedly, was a secondary pattern of white blocks in the middle! I put a picture of the original pattern so you can see the contrast.

Vacation Project 39 - Chianti Java Batiks Quilt cut up

Vacation Project 39 - Today I cut up a new project. This was a stack of green/dark blue Java batiks that I bought back in 2014. I think I found a great project for them. It's a pattern called Chianti by Villa Rosa Designs. I have two nephews that just got engaged, so I think this would make a great wedding quilt.

Vacation Project 38 - New water heater

Vacation Project 38 - Yesterday, I had an unplanned vacation project. Not fun - but necessary. A new water heater! It was 12 years old and rusting. Instead of waiting for it to leak (or worse - rupture), we decided that since I was off work and I had no client quilts around, that this week would be a good week to replace it. Took a lot of covering things up, moving things around, taking up my floor tiles, but my studio is back in order now!

Vacation Project 37 - Quilt Diva Wallhanging

Vacation Project 37 - Today I quilted and bound and made a rod pocket for my "Quilt Diva" wallhanging - Finally! I made this in 2010 and it's been sitting here. I've learned a lot since 2010 and figured out how to finish it (I used a fine line sharpie marker to outline her) and quilt it so that it looks okay. (Note the background behind her is white - my picture on the wall turned yellowish).

Vacation Project 36 - Yellow and Gray/Black Intrigue quilt

Vacation Project 36 - Today I got the binding on a quilt my niece. I made this quilt from a pattern called "Intrigue" by Villa Rosa Designs. I quilted it with a pattern called Interlocking Dots. I hope she likes it!

Vacation Project 35 - Intrigue pillowcases

Vacation Project 35 - I also made up a pair of pillowcases. These match the quilt that I'm putting the binding on right now. Will post that tomorrow......

Vacation Project 34 - Pandemonium project cut up

Vacation Project 34 - Today I cut up a project using a Villa Rosa pattern called Pandemonium. This was a stack of fabric from the Basic Grey line of fabric called Sweet Serenade. This was a project from 5 years ago or so. I tried another sample project a few years ago from these fabrics and it just wasn't working. So I think this one is going to be great!

Vacation Project 33 - Filed my sales taxes!

Vacation Project 33 - This weekend I finished all my company accounting and got my sales taxes filed!

Vacation Project 32 - Rod pockets on the back of my wall hangings

Vacation Project 32 - I got a new wall hanger for quilts about 1-1/2 years ago.  I finally got around to hanging it AND putting 3 rod pockets on the backs of my 3 favorite wall hangings.

Vacation Project 31 - 672 Fabric Masks Done!

Vacation Project 31 - I just finished my last batches of fabric masks. So I have made 672 masks and I am DONE! No more elastic! DONE DONE DONE!

Vacation Project 30 - Intrigue quilt 6

Vacation Project 30 - This post - Intrigue Quilt 6. (See Intrigue Quilt 1 post for explanation). This is my favorite! I used a light Alice in Wonderland fabric for the centers. Then I used all the assorted blacks and browns for the outside. This is a 5x5 layout. Then I used a dark brown border to make it bigger. This quilt measures 102x103.

Vacation Project 29 - Intrigue quilt 5

Vacation Project 29 - This post - Intrigue Quilt 5. (See Intrigue Quilt 1 post for explanation). This was the one that I really didn't think was going to look ok, but I'm so in love with how it turned out. This was all the leftovers from my "word" fabrics, but they all had color (all the beiges and whites and creams went into other quilts). So I took a green peppered cotton for the centers and used all these colored fabrics around the centers. This is a 4x5 layout. I was very concerned with how the greens and colored pieces were going to look together, so I added a green border to tie it all together. This quilt measures 80x96.

Vacation Project 28 - This post - Intrigue Quilt 4. (See Intrigue Quilt 1 post for explanation). This had a black letter center with low volumes beiges and creams around the outside. This is a 3x4 layout or a quilt top that measures 54x72.

Vacation Project 27 - This post - Intrigue Quilt 3. (See Intrigue Quilt 1 post for explanation). This had a dark gray center with low volume blues and yellows and grays around the outside. This is a 3x4 layout or a quilt top that measures 54x72.

Vacation Project 26 - This post - Intrigue Quilt 2. (See Intrigue Quilt 1 post for explanation). This had a plum purple center with low volume creams and beiges around the outside. This is a 4x5 layout or a quilt top that measures 71x88.

Vacation Project 25 - Intrigue quilt 1

Vacation Project 25 - Now starts a series of quilt tops that I'm finishing today and tomorrow. This all started from a quilt I wanted to make for my for my niece 3 years ago. I collected a lot of fabric - anything with words, but mostly neutrals. I made my niece her wedding quilt. Then realized I had enough to make A LOT more quilts out of the remaining fabric. Today I made 4. Then I have 2 more tomorrow. And I have one one my quilting frame. so that's 8 quilts from one hoard of fabric. So glad to get my bag empty. All these quilts used the pattern called "Intrigue" by Villa Rosa Designs.

This post - Intrigue Quilt 1 - a light center in each square, with dark blues and blacks around the outside. This is a 2x3 layout, or a baby quilt that's - 36x54.

Vacation Project 24 - Spice Market quilt cut up

Vacation Project 24 - I cut up a project over the weekend called "Spice Market". This was a pattern from McCall's Quick Quilts Feb/Mar 2014. This is going to look great with all these wonderful batiks. I included a copy of the finished quilt from the magazine.

Vacation Project 23 - Dressed to the Nines quilt

Vacation Project 23 - Today I finished my niece's wedding quilt. It's called Dressed to the Nines and was a block of the month from Sonflower Quilts. I used the quilting pattern Bubbly. Then I used a variegated thread called Shifting Sands.

Vacation Project 22 - Pillowcases

Vacation Project 22 - Today I'm still working on quilting my niece's wedding quilt. It will be bound and I'll post it tomorrow. In the meantime, I finished the pillowcases.
