What's on the Frame? Margie S's Rose and Tan Sampler quilt. Margie chose the quilting pattern "interlocking hearts". Then we used a variegated roses thread called Egypy Rose. You'll note that there are applique blocks on this quilt. In my opinion, doing an edge to edge quilting pattern (same pattern all the way across the quilt) is perfectly acceptable in quilting over applique. If the right complementary pattern is chosen, as well as one that is interlocking and a little more denser than usual, it will keep all the appliques quilted down properly. If you didn't quilt them, the appliques would "pop out" after washing. Thus the applique fabrics wouldn't wear well and wouldn't last as long as the rest of the quilt.
